Sent

The church was never meant to stay comfortable, passive, or inward focused. From the very beginning, followers of Jesus were sent into the world with the message of the Gospel and the power of the Holy Spirit.

In this series through Acts 13–20, we follow the missionary journeys of Paul and the early church as the Gospel spreads across cities, cultures, and nations. Again and again, we see ordinary people used by God in extraordinary ways. Despite persecution, hardship, rejection, and uncertainty, the mission of God continued moving forward because believers were willing to say yes to God’s calling.

That same mission still belongs to the church today.

Many people assume being “sent” only applies to pastors, missionaries, or church leaders. But every follower of Jesus has been sent into their everyday life to represent Christ. Whether at school, work, on a sports team, in a neighbourhood, or around the dinner table, God has placed us where we are for a reason.

This series challenges us to see everyday life as mission. The Gospel is not meant to stay contained within church walls. God calls us to love people intentionally, share our faith boldly, serve sacrificially, and live in a way that points others to Jesus.

Acts reminds us that the church grows not because of human strength or perfect circumstances, but because the Holy Spirit empowers ordinary people to live on mission. The same Spirit who empowered the early church is still at work today.

Jesus’ final words before His ascension were:

8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses… — Acts 1:8

The church is not called to stand still. We are sent.
